Abstract

Structural health monitoring is a term that has generally been used in the last few decades to describe the role of infrastructures in societies. The deterioration, aging of materials, and poor maintenance of infrastructures have emphasized the use of different methods like detecting cracks; the use of various types of devices has increased, and it is approved to be an effective way to monitor the health of infrastructures. The condition of structures in developing countries is always a point of attention. Pakistan is facing various challenges concerning the economic point of view, which affects the development and maintenance of civil infrastructures. As the structure's life increases, the load-carrying capacity of bridges examination of the condition of pavements and buildings becomes inevitable. The different methods of SHM are discussed that are economical and effective. It will provide guidelines to utilize the infrastructures at their best ability, which will help their economy and directly enhance the quality of life in society.
