Land, infrastructure, finance, administrative bodies, real estate markets and most importantly role of government are most significant factors in this regard, and the tool through which the Governments intervene is usually known as housing guideline or housing policy. Through a critical study of housing policies of many countries, this paper emphasize the importance of a concrete housing policy and will develop the basis on which housing guidelines can be worked out. In case of Pakistan, National Housing Policy 2001 is analyzed. The factors that hindered the proper implementation are also highlighted. This paper attempts to put forward some recommendations that can be a part of Pakistan’s housing policy. The methodology adopted for the study involves the literature review, semi-structured questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) staff, academia, practitioners and waste scavengers to collect first hand information. The present municipal waste disposal site is situated in the middle of a residential settlement and as such, does not meet the criteria of appropriate distance from the human habitat. It is discovered from the interviews of the CDA staff that there is neither any development nor any facilities for the staff at site and even paved track is not available to access the tipping area. The limits of waste dumping area are undefined and tipping area changes on need basis. Representatives of the renowned NGOs, private practitioners and the academia have shown serious concerns over the site location, inadequate facilities, inappropriate operation and consequent environmental impacts on the surrounding communities in particular and the twin cities in general. Input of a wide range of interviewees is useful for selection and development of future waste disposal site on sound Town Planning principles to eradicate the adverse impacts on the environment. &nbsp;</p> Ghulam Sarwar Sandhu, Malik Asghar Naeem, Zaigham Abbas, Abdul Waheed ##submission.copyrightStatement## Fri, 28 Sep 2018 00:00:00 +0500 Improving Maximum Power Point Tracking for Photovoltaic System Using Ant Colony Optimization Based PI Controller <p><strong>For improving efficiency of photovoltaic system, this paper proposed a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system using a drift free modified perturb and observe (P&amp;O) algorithm with ant colony optimization (ACO) based proportional integral (PI) controller. The anticipated MPPT system overcomes the disadvantages of conventional P&amp;O and tracks maximum power point (MPP) accurately with no oscillations. The modified P&amp;O algorithm mitigates the drift effect of usual P&amp;O with correct decision making in its algorithm. The ACO based PI controller decreases the steady state error and MPP is achieved after very short transient time. An evaluation is made with different algorithms for proposed MPPT technique using Matlab/Simulink. Simulation results show that MPP is achieved rapidly without drifting and oscillations. It gives an insight into fundamentals of security and risks associated with big data along with certain possible solutions. For this purpose, two 2-D (corrugated and straight) channels have been considered for investigation. Direct numerical simulation has been implemented, in which Reynolds number is varied in an ascending manner (2000&lt;Re&gt;5000), while flow behavior has been maintained in a steady turbulent mode. To undergo analysis, Fluent (ANSYS Workbench 15.0) has been utilized. Air has been considered as a working fluid during analysis, while dimensions like cross section, height and length have been taken as invariant parameters for both channels. For all cases wall flux, has been regarded as a constant measure during heat transfer simulation. After obtaining solution, results have been compared for both channels and it is concluded that transmission of heat is much more prominent in corrugated channel as in comparison with straight channel.</strong></p> Naseem Abbas, Sania Nazir, Maryama Hammi ##submission.copyrightStatement## Thu, 08 Nov 2018 15:21:25 +0500 Classification of Rigid Rotor Faults Using Time Domain Features Extracted from Multiple Vibration Sensors <p>Rotating machinery is the most common in industry. To avoid financial losses and catastrophic failures, accurate identification of rotor faults is crucial. Common rotor faults include unbalance (UF), misalignment (MF), bent (BF), eccentricity (EF) and cocked rotor (CF).&nbsp; Each fault is addressed through distinctive maintenance technique, and thus inaccurate identification of these faults may introduce additional problems in the machinery.&nbsp; Vibration-based predictive maintenance is very effective method to monitor the condition of machinery. Problem arises when traditional vibration analysis methods do not provide clear picture of the rotor faults. To address the issue, this research presents a fault diagnostic model, which employ supervised learning-based pattern recognition (PR) method using time domain statistical features (TD).&nbsp; The TD features are extracted from vibration signals acquired from multiple accelerometers to capture radial and axial vibrations simultaneously. Difference of mechanical forces, exhibited by these faults on the multiple axes, provides very informative fault related TD features. Salient features are selected with the help of Decision tree (DT) to be utilized by Support Vector Machine (SVM). The proposed model provides very accurate classification of the faults. The technique is use to make a mathematical model of piston. It is analyze on MATLAB using Gauss Seidel iterative method to get the required results and see the effects on lubrication layer caused by piston tilt. The technique used in this research is by discretizing the equations and making matrices of the required forces for different crank angles. Also mesh is being generated at piston skirt. Across each node of mesh the effect of lubrication layer was observed. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique to examine skin lesion. It helps in detection of melanoma. Experienced dermatologists are required to diagnose melanoma from dermoscopic images. Death toll of melanoma patients is very high due to difficulties faced in diagnosis. Computer-aided design is a way to diagnose it at early stage and hence proper treatment will lead to decreased death rate. Digital dermoscopic images are processed to diagnose and classify skin cancer. Noise present in image is a hurdle in the detection of lesion. Gabor wavelets are used to highlight artifacts. Hair, reflections, shadows, skin lines and air bubbles are artifacts that are considered as noise. Noise degrades image quality. The corrupted image can lead to wrong detection of cancer region. Image visibility can be enhanced by improving color contrast and noise removal. Image processing techniques are applied to images to remove artifacts. This paper presents comparative analysis of ten filters and six point processing techniques. A cellular network implements the appropriate network model to support packet data services at high speed. The core of the packet data service model is an important part of quality of service. In order to provide support to different quality of services, multi-services are configured in universal mobile telecommunication systems.&nbsp; This research work addresses the enhancement of quality of services using integrated services in radio access 4G cellular network. To enhance integrated services, a resource reservation protocol is implemented at Radio Access Network (RAN) layer and is deployed to enhance the QoS. The most common aims of this research include to implement the architecture for integrated services, QoS classes mapping into a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS).The ultimate benefits are to provide a wide range of 4G services for mobile users which addresses the fast multimedia services and error free Internet facilities with efficiency and consistency, which resulted in the provision of QoS services at high speed.
