Performance Evaluation of Ordinary Concrete having Crumb Rubber Treated with Alkaline Solution
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this study crumb rubber was treated with the alkaline solutions of NaOH and Bleaching powder for 24-hr before employing in concrete as a partial replacement of sand. The replacement levels were kept at 5% and 10%. Fresh and hardened densities, workability and thermal conductivity of rubberized concrete were investigated. Results revealed that the workability of the rubberized concrete decreased with the increase in their percentage. The incorporation of treated rubberized particles also reduced the density of the end products. The thermal conductivity was reduced by 50% by incorporating 10% treated crumb rubber. The use of crumb rubber for production of rubberized concrete will reduce the environmental hazards posed by burning and dumping of waste tires rubber.
