A Review on Advances in Mapping Landslide Susceptibility
Main Article Content
Abstract
Evaluating the susceptibility of landslides plays a vital role in environmental and land planning, aiming to reduce the potential risks posed to human life and property by disaster. The complexity of landslide hazard evaluation is underscored by its interdisciplinary nature, requiring expertise in a range of fields such as earth sciences, including geomorphology and engineering geology, as well as statistics, computer science, physics, information technology, and economics.
The review covers a brief examination of recent progress in the field, delving into different causative factors and methodologies. The current techniques are shifting towards the implementation of warning systems and regulations for land use to minimize the impact on human lives and property without committing to costly, long-term ground stabilization projects. Geographic Information System (GIS) methodologies have been extensively created and employed, emerging as the primary instruments for mapping landslide susceptibility.
