Abstract

This review explores advancements in micromechanical modeling of asphalt mixtures for flexible pavements and their potential use in contemporary design methodologies. Through a comprehensive analysis, it explores previously studied methods including discrete and finite element models, shedding light on their contributions to understanding asphalt behavior under varied stress conditions. A pivotal focus is on the intricate relationship between tire-road contact stresses and pavement responses. By synthesizing key findings, the review sheds light on the work done so far on micromechanical modelling of asphalt mixtures and their role in assessing the tire-road contact points.
